Brad Pattico was born in the village of Burrell Boom. During his leisure time he would be roaming the forest or looking to see the loggers as they worked at the boom by the riverside. He can now relate a lot of the history of this little village by his experience with people like “Boom Governor” Jim Sebastian, Ronald Clarke among others. His favorite places to visit were Isabella Bank, where his brother, Horace Hulse and family lived. He has since written a song that relates to these times “Isabella Benk”.
His love for music began at a tender age of 10 years. His brother played the guitar and was told on several occasions not to touch his guitar but he could not wait for the opportunity of finding some time when he was not around to play his guitar. His first recorded song on the then, Radio Belize was “The Fox” which he finally accomplished after about 30 takes. He was influenced by the late, Margaret Pike, after she performed at Baptist Primary School, which he attended at the time. Brad went on to Belize Technical College where he was asked to perform in a play for the graduation of sixth formers from that College. The then, Premier of Belize, the Right Honorable George Cadle Price was the guest speaker for the night. After the night’s presentation, the Premier contacted the school the following morning and asked for this young Pattico boy to come to his office. With a spirit of uncertainty about what this meeting would entail, Brad timidly went over to the Premier’s office. Mr. Price expressed his appreciation for the performance he had made the night before and said he thought Brad had a voice for broadcasting and if interested, he could have a job at the only Radio station in the nation at the time, Radio Belize. Brad accepted the offer and said he would like to complete his last two years of high school education, which he attended mainly because of his friends and not so much for his love for academics. Upon his completion of high school, he immediately reported for work at Radio Belize as a continuity announcer. His love for country music brought him a ton of fans for the program – Country and Western.
Brad had another love and that was his music. His passion for Belizean Folk Music led him to form a group called the Evolution of Youth from his scout troop from Burrell Boom village. He travelled with his group all over Belize into all the Northern villages. He recalls the kindness shown to that group by one, Andrew Reyes, who offered to transport this young group to their performances in the Corozal district. Among the performances Brad remembers most, are those done in the Festival Cultural de Centro America in Cancun, Mexico and other Mexican states. He and his wife Michelle coordinated the cultural performances for the visit of the Queen Elizabeth II of England, where they also sang.
Brad and Michelle were the leaders of the Praise and Worship session for the listeners of the Minnesota based KTIS Radio Station Caribbean Cruise, led by Dan Wynia.
He relocated from Belize to the U.S.A in December of 2003 and lived in Nappanee, Indiana.
Being the former President of the Belize Association for Christian broadcasting, Brad was asked to do devotions for Northwestern College of Minnesota. He also did a concert at Presbyterian church in Shakopee, Minnesota after which he was asked to do the opening performance with his wife, Michelle and Anne Hinericks for Phillips, Craig and Dean at Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
He has entertained audiences in churches all over Phoenix, Arizona and did fundraisers for churches in Belize in Nappanee, Indiana and Lake City, MN.
Presently, Brad is bringing his talents to California. He has teamed up with the Belize Association of California and has been networking with his fellow Belizeans with the intentions of giving back to his native land, Belize.
